Classical pianist to dazzle

A CLASSICAL pianist from Ethiopia will play at a concert to be held at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery on Sunday.

Girma Yifrashewa is visiting Australia for the first time and has been invited to perform at the gallery as part of Ballarat duo MirLyn’s concert in the Oddie Gallery at 2:30pm.

The concert is part of the Women’s Association Sunday Concert Series, and Mr Yifrashewa will perform works from Chopin and his own composition The Shepherd and the Flute as an introduction to MirLyn’s cello and acoustic guitar performance.

Mr Yifrashewa said he was looking forward to performing. “I’m very happy to be given the chance to perform,” he said. “I am here to August 15 and I am hoping to see as much of the country as I can. It’s such a beautiful country, very friendly and very surprising. I feel very at home here.”

Tickets to the concert are free with gallery admission.
