Ethiopian Pianist Stages Concert

ADDIS ABABA – A young Ethiopiana artiste Thursday evening staged a two-part piano concert at the Italian Cultural Institute featuring the works of 6 famous composers of 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

The pianist, Girma Shewaferahu, in the first part of his show, performed selected pieces from the works of the Austrian composers W.A Mozart and F. Schubbert and the German composer L.V. Beethoven.

The second part of Girma’s repertoire included the works of F. Chopin of Poland, C. Debussy of France and two preludes of the 20th century American composer G. Gershwin.

The plays were interspersed by acclamations from an appreciative audience consisting members of the expatriate community and Ethiopian music-lovers.
Girma is currently a piano teacher at the Yared Music School. He obtained his M.A Degree in piano forte from the conservatory of Music of Bulgaria (Sofia) in June 1994.

As student he had solo concerts in Sofia, Rome and here in Addis.
